Education

Introduction

In April 2019, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Shenzhen government, stipulating the joint construction of CAAS Shenzhen Graduate School. In September 2020, CAAS Shenzhen Graduate School officially launched its education program. In terms of disciplinary development, the school implemented a"biotechnology/information technology+modern agriculture" strategy, focusing on national major strategies and development needs, and cultivating interdisciplinary talents in areas such as agricultural biotechnology, smart agriculture, food safety and nutrition health that are urgently needed for China's agricultural modernization and industrialization transformation process. We have started teaching master's and doctoral students in fields such as bioinformatics, genomics, and genetic breeding, and have jointly trained graduate students with well-known domestic and foreign universities such as Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Liege University in Belgium, and Huazhong Agricultural University. Currently, there are 517 graduate students and 19 international university joint doctoral students.

In May 2017, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward that the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences should accelerate the construction of world first-class disciplines and research institutes meeting the forefront of agricultural science and technology, major national needs and the main battlefield of modern agricultural construction, and promote the overall improvement of China's agricultural science and technology.

Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences should closely address the “shortcomings” of China's agricultural technology, focus on deepening the reform of the agricultural science and technology system and mechanism, promote agricultural science and technology innovation, strive to achieve more significant scientific research results, cultivate more outstanding talents, and continuously improve China's agricultural science and technology level and international competitiveness. In order to meet the growing demand for transforming scientific research advantages into high-level agricultural technology talent cultivation advantages and fully tap into the enormous potential of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in cultivating high-end agricultural talents, in December 2017, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences decided to establish the Shenzhen Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Shenzhen Graduate School") based at the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (hereinafter referred to as AGIS) within the overall framework of the "Two Stage Training" model of graduate education.

In the future, Shenzhen Graduate School will adhere to the motto of "cultivating virtue, understanding things, and practicing knowledge", firmly adhere to the idea of "putting science at the center, striving for excellence, and standing firm in the sky and earth", adhere to the concept of open education, fully utilize the advantages of ourschool's scientific and technological innovation, disciplines, talents, and other advantages, fully utilize the policy advantages and innovation environment of Shenzhen's leading demonstration zone and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, jointly create a southern base for graduate training, a joint experimental field and leading demonstration zone for cultivating high-level agricultural talents in China, and strive to become a first-class and internationally renowned high-level agricultural talent training base in China. This will contribute to the implementation of China's rural revitalization strategy, the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area strategy, and the construction of the socialism pilot demonstration zone in Shenzhen.
