The Shenzhen Comprehensive Experimental Farm(hereafter "the Farm")spans 86 hectares, including 57.7 hectares of cultivated land, along with irrigation channels, water reservoirs, and ecological conservation zones. Located in Dapeng New District, this facility serves as a key agricultural research hub.
Through investments from both national and Shenzhen municipal funding, the Farm has modernized its agricultural infrastructure and irrigation networks. To facilitate advanced field research, it has established 55,000 square meters of specialized facilities including greenhouses, screenhouses, equipment storage, and research support buildings. The Farm operates a full suite of agricultural machinery and precision agriculture systems.
Core Research Focus Areas:
Staple Crops ResearchRice physiology studies, varietal development of rice/maize/wheat, diploid potato breeding programs
Horticultural Crops InnovationTomato/cucumber breeding (including vine tendril mechanism research), melon/watermelon cultivar development
Specialty Crops DevelopmentOrnamental flower breeding (chrysanthemums/carnations), grape genomics-assisted breeding, medicinal plant (Taxus) conservation
Functioning as an active science communication hub, the Farm hosts seasonal public event, such as the Oilseed Rape Blossom Festival and Dapeng Chrysanthemum Expo. The Farm serves as a key participant in national science promotion campaigns including Agricultural Science Week and National Science Literacy Day . Its educational credentials include designation as the Insect Gallery, Shenzhen Nature Education Center, Municipal Agricultural Science Demonstration Base and so on.
Positioned at the forefront of agricultural innovation, the Farm is evolving into a model of sustainable, technology-driven precision agriculture through strategic infrastructure investments and eco-conscious operational practices.
