The swift advancement of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) has profoundly impacted every facet of plant functional genomics and breeding investigations. With the continuous advancements in sequencing technology and the steady decline in costs, the integration of NGS with plant functional genomics and breeding research is poised to intensify in the foreseeable future. Prof. Chang’s team is primarily dedicated to pioneering novel methodologies that leverage NGS for plant functional genomics and breeding research. Their research direction involves the development of innovative NGS-based approaches for plant functional genomics and breeding, including 1) the construction of extensive DNA fragment libraries; 2) the formulation of innovative strategies for genome-wide molecular markers; and 3) the application of these cutting-edge techniques to intricate complex plant genomes, particularly in the mapping and cloning of disease resistance genes in maize.
Sheng Zhao: Zhao Sheng, a postdoctoral researcher, obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2021. He then conducted postdoctoral research at the Omics Technology Research Center of the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. His main research interests include the development of high-throughput sequencing technologies and omics data analysis. He has published several research papers in journals such as the Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, Theoretical and Applied Genetics, Plant Methods, and Plant Genome. He is now presiding over a project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Youth Fund).
Waqar Afzal Malik: Waqar Afzal Malik is currently working as a postdoc researcher at Agricultural Genomics Institute of CAAS Shenzhen since Aug. 2021. He received his PhD degree in "crop germplasm resources" from Cotton Research Institute, CAAS in 2021. His research interests focus on stress physiology, integrated multi omics study of stress resistant genetic material for crop breeding and evolutionary basis for polyploidy.
