Professor Shifeng Cheng currently serves as the Director of the Plant Genomics Center at the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, China (AGIS).  He got Bachelor of Biological Sciences from HuBei University in 2008 and Master of Genomics from the ShenZhen University in 2011. In 2014, he obtained his PhD degree from University of Hongkong.

Shifeng’s research is focused on cereal and legume genome biology, especially in high-performance traits related with carbon efficiency and nitrogen efficiency from an evolutionary genetics perspective. Shifeng has a special focus on unlocking the genetic potential for efficient biological nitrogen fixation to improve grain yield and protein content. Together with his team, he has published over 50 high-impact articles (citations >15,000 with h-index: 31) – some of which were published in the top-tier journals, where he served as the lead author.
