Cuijun Zhang Lab

Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a global wheat disease, and in recent years it has become one of the most important diseases threatening safe production of wheat in China. The main research interests of the Zhang lab are focused on improving wheat resistance to FHB and its adaptability to the environment.

The group includes 3 postdoctoral fellows, 1 research assistant, 2 Ph.D. students, and 10 MSc. students.

Postdoctoral fellow
    • Xishi Zhou: Xishi has focused on the effect of Harbinger transposon-derived SANT domain-containing proteins on plant gene expression by modulating different histone modifications.

    • Jiang Xiong: Jiang graduated from Hunan Agricultural University in 2020 with a PhD in agronomy. Xiong's doctoral research focused on the stress physiology of fruit trees. Xiong started postdoctoral work in February 2021, specialising in the study of the pathogenic mechanism of Fusarium graminearum in wheat, including the identification and functional study of pathogenic toxic effectors and the mining of functional genes for disease resistance.

    • Shengping Shang: Shengping graduated from Northwest A & F University with a degree in plant pathology. He studies plant-host interactions with a particular focus on wheat resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB). He is investigating the mechanisms of Fusarium graminearum  effector proteins and identifying wheat resistance genes to FHB.
