Our laboratory is focusing on important agronomic traits of rice, such as yield, resistance and nutritional utilization efficiency. In combination with gene editing techniques, multi-omics, and molecular biology techniques to explore gene functions, create important genetic resources, and screen high-quality rice breeding materials. More specifically:
1. Leaf is an important plant organ, it is the place for plant photo-synthesis. And leaf is also the heat source, carbon source and it can feed oxygen, water to atmosphere. Our lab studies the mechanism of leaf development, especially leaf polarity establishment in rice. Through different methods, like histology, live imaging and transcriptome analysis, we would like to find out key genes for leaf polarity establishment and characterize function of these genes. And we try to build up a genetic regulation network and understand molecular mechanism. Through the study of leaf development, it can shed more light on plant morphogenesis theory and also provide important genetic resources for breeding.
2. Improvement of the gene editing technology of wild rice, and use wild rice resources to create new available breeding materials.
3. Characterization of rice genes for stress tolerance, nutrition utilization efficiency , and reveal their regulatory mechanism.

Suikang Wang
Suikang Wang, associate researcher and master's supervisor, obtained his Ph.D. in plant science from Zhejiang University in 2013 and then worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Zhejiang University (2013-2015) and Shenzhen University (2016-2019), respectively. In 2019, Dr. Wang joinedAGIS, CAAS. He is mainly focusing on dissecting the genetic basis of the formation of important organs and agronomic traits in rice. He has published more than 10 SCI journal papers in academicjournals, including Plant Cell, Plant Journal, New Phytologist, and Plant Cell & Environment. His research projects were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
Minghao Liu, Postdoc, earned his Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from CAAS in 2021 and joined in AGIS, CAAS in the same year. He is now investigating the regulatory mechanisms of growth and development in rice. He has published his papers in several academic journals such as Plant Biotechnology Journal.
Chang Tian,Postdoc, received her Ph.D. in horticulture from Nanjing Agricultural University in 2022 and joined AGIS, CAAS in the same year. She isnow working on the underlying molecular mechanism of boundary development in rice. She has published several academic papers in journals, such as New Phytologist, and got funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Wanshun Zhong, Postdoc, obtained his Ph.D. in Agronomy from Huazhong Agricultural University in 2022. In 2023, he joined AGIS, CAAS. He is mainly interested in the functional gene annotation and mechanism of phenotypic variation in crops. He received special funding from the "Excellent Farmer Program" andthe Postdoctoral Science Foundation in 2023.
