Chunzhi Zhang
Chunzhi Zhang, Principal Investigator, Doctoral Advisor, a receipiant of the National Natural Science Foundation of China for Excellent Youth Fund. She is a potato geneticist and breeder, specialized in diploid hybrid potato breeding. In 2014, she obtained her PhD degree from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. From 2014 to 2019, she did a postdoc in Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS), working on self-incompatibility and inbreeding depression in diploid potato. Since 2019, she worked in AGIS as a PI. Her group is dedicated to reinventing potato from a tuber-propagated tetraploid crop into an inbred-based diploid crop propagated by seeds. Her team used genome design to develop the first generation of inbred lines and the conceptual hybrid “Upotato No. 1” with strong heterosis. She has published 23 papers in Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Plants, Nature Communications, etc., with over 2000 citations, and obtained 8 invention patents.
