Wei Li, principal investigator, and doctoral advisor, received his PhD degree from Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015, Worked as a postdoc at University of Michigan from 2016 to 2019. His research focuses on the elucidation of plant specialized metabolic pathways and synthetic metabolic engineering. Papers have been published on Plant Cell, Plant Physiology, etc. He is  a review editor for plant metabolism and biodiversity of Frontiers in Plant Science since 2019.
