Sanwen Huang (Principle investigator)
Dr. Sanwen Huang serves as the President of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and a professor at the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He works in the interdisciplinary field of genomics, molecular biology, and plant breeding, using potato and vegetable crops as research subjects. Using genome design, his team reinvents potato from a clonally propagated tetraploid crop into a seed-propagated diploid crop. He set the foundation of vegetable genomics research and the genetics study of quality traits, which helps develop better-tasting vegetable cultivars. He is a highly cited scholar, with more than 140 SCI papers. He served as the chief scientist of the National "973" project and was funded by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars. He serves as the Vice President of the Chinese Society for Plant Biology, the Vice President of the Botanical Society of China and member of the Cell Academic Advisory Committee. He has been honered with the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award of China, the National Innovation Award, Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the Zhou Guangzhao Foundation Award for Basic Sciences, the Shenzhen Mayor's Award, the 40 Model Innovators and Entrepreneurs for the 40th Anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2023.
